Release 2.2

Last updated 2026-05-11

FlatoutATC 2.2.0

Released: 2026-05-11 · Build: 41

The biggest release since the App Store launch. New 3D modes, helicopter
operations, in-game weather visualisation, a cross-platform companion at
flatoutatc.com, and a long list of polish + fixes.

✨ New features

3D Radar Mode

View the entire airspace in three dimensions. Terrain elevation, rivers,
contours, and buildings are rendered at mean sea level; aircraft fly at their actual altitude above the floor. A vertical-exaggeration slider lets
you choose how dramatic the relief looks — flat for tactical reads, tall
for cinematic terrain at Innsbruck, Grand Canyon, Queenstown.

Available on every level via the radar toggle. 2D radar remains the
default; switch back any time.

3D Tower View

At Solberg (N51), Scottsdale, and Vancouver, switch the ground
scene to a from-the-tower perspective. Imported aircraft models taxi across real-scale runways and taxiways. A fixed-position camera pans
and tilts like a pair of binoculars; pinch becomes binocular zoom rather than world zoom.

Helicopter operations

Helicopters are no longer fixed-wing aircraft with funny silhouettes:

  • Hover at zero speed at any altitude
  • Yaw twice as fast as fixed-wing (6°/s)
  • Land on dedicated helipads via the new landHelipad goal
  • Auto-engage descent when within 1.5 NM of the goal pad

Solberg ships with Hunterdon Medical Center as a medevac destination
~2 NM south of the airport. Vector the helo close; the autopilot handles
the touchdown.

3D thunderstorms

Translucent vertical cylinders plus floor rings now show the full storm
volume in 3D mode — phase-coloured to match the 2D scene (yellow forming, red mature, orange dissipating) and animated with the same pulse +
alpha-breathe rhythm. You can see weather from a pilot's perspective for the first time.

🌍 Cross-platform

iOS ↔ Web bridge

A companion web version is live at
flatoutatc.com — no download, plays in any modern browser, free tier covers four levels.

For paying iOS players: Settings → Account → "Use my purchases on the
web"
mints a one-time redemption code that unlocks the Full Game on the web companion. No additional charge.

Sign in with Apple capability is now enabled on the App ID, paving
the way for future cross-platform account linking.

🛬 N51 (Solberg) polish

The home tutorial airport got a serious facelift:

  • Filled lakes (was outlines only)
  • Road + town overlay layer for visual context
  • New banner-tow / survey traffic — light aircraft that circle a fix
and exit via another, adding decoration traffic the player keeps clear of
  • Random-pool scenario that mixes the goal set differently every run
    (replacing the fixed preset script)

🛠 Reliability fixes

  • Takeoff-queue collisions are now correctly counted and the affected
aircraft are removed properly. Previously a single ground-conflict could leave a level unwinnable.
  • Grand Canyon takeoff crash — high-elevation airports no longer crash the simulator at rotation.
  • Hong Kong runway orientation now matches the published airport
    charts (was rotated incorrectly).
  • Pro Max Metal texture crash — 3D mode no longer crashes on 3×
iPhone displays when loading the basemap.

⚡ Performance

  • DEM-based terrain mesh ships per region for smoother elevation rendering across mountainous levels.
  • USDZ aircraft models load in parallel for snappier scene rebuilds
    when entering 3D mode.

📘 Improved level instructions

Per-level briefings polished across the catalogue with clearer
step-by-step guidance and accuracy fixes. The Tutorial level in particular now walks new players through the controls with concrete
heading / altitude / clearance steps.
